UAE summons Swedish Ambassador over Quran burning incident

WAM

The UAE has summoned the Ambassador of Sweden to the UAE to protest the burning of copies of the Holy Quran by extremists.

Liselott Andersson was called for by the Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, who reiterated to her the UAE's rejection of all practices that offend religions, stressing the need to respect religious symbols and avoid incitement and polarisation.

Moreover, Al Hashemy underscored such practices only lead to more tension and confrontation at a time when the world needs to work together to reject hatred and extremism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation had previously reiterated the need to spread values of tolerance and coexistence.
