UAE joins INTERPOL steering committee on chemical security

WAM

The UAE has become the first GCC country to join INTERPOL’s Steering Committee for the Global Congress on Chemical Security and Emerging Threats — a move that highlights the country’s growing role in promoting global safety and stability.

The Ministry of Interior is representing the UAE on the committee, which brings together experts from over 2,000 organizations worldwide to combat chemical threats and enhance international preparedness.

The Steering Committee, formed in 2022, sets the strategic direction for the Global Congress on Chemical Security, and facilitates cross-sectoral and multinational collaboration among experts.

The latest meeting of the committee is currently underway in Abu Dhabi, with global experts and officials discussing cooperation, upcoming joint exercises, and the integration of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence into chemical security systems.

Topics also include how countries with limited resources can strengthen defences, prevent cyberattacks on chemical infrastructure and boost coordination between industry, governments and law enforcement.
