Dubai International Airport on Wednesday extended support to passengers unable to complete their journey to Sudan after flights to the country were suspended due to the "deteriorating situation" in Khartoum.

In a statement, a Dubai Airports spokesperson said transit passengers, who had flown in from other parts of the world, were provided with "temporary accommodation until they are able to travel to Khartoum or they choose to travel to other destinations".

The official added that Dubai Airports "places the highest priority on the safety of passengers and crew" and is "closely monitoring the situation in Sudan to determine the course of action in the coming days".

Meanwhile, Emirates Airline and flydubai have extended the suspension of services to Sudan until the end of the month.

"All Emirates flights to/from Khartoum (EK733/EK734) are cancelled from April 15 till April 30," read their update on their official website.

Passengers are advised to contact their booking agents for "alternative travel arrangements".
