Dubai outlines five initiatives under Food Security Strategy 2030

Dubai has outlined five major initiatives under its Food Security Strategy 2030, including plans to boost local agricultural production, strengthen supply chains and cut food waste.

The strategy, approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai., is built around food availability, affordability, quality and safety, sustainability and resilience, and support for the food industry.

The Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority says one initiative will focus on expanding local production, including fisheries, livestock and support for small-scale farmers.

A second will aim to make food supply chains more resilient by diversifying import markets and working with importers of key food commodities.

Other measures include programmes to reduce food waste, research into consumption patterns, improvements to Dubai’s Food Security Platform and greater support for investment in AgriTech.

The authority says the strategy is also designed to help Dubai respond more effectively to global supply disruptions, market fluctuations and climate-related pressures.
