Dubai Customs announced on Thursday they had successfully thwarted a huge shipment of the controlled drug Pregabalin, hidden in 40 barrels among incoming air cargo shipments.

The shipment, weighing 1,100 kg was detected using advanced customs systems, the authority said.

Customs officers at the air cargo terminal reviewed documents, matched them with the shipment and, after thorough monitoring, it was revealed the seized substance was listed as a controlled drug in the UAE.

The General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police was immediately notified, and legal proceedings were initiated against the suspects in the presence of representatives from relevant departments of Dubai Customs and Dubai Police.
