Dubai launches 'Zad Rashid' to inspire young minds through books

Dubai has launched a new initiative to inspire a love of reading among children.

The ‘Zad Rashid’ programme, introduced by the Community Development Authority in partnership with Dubai Culture, will distribute 1,000 home libraries to young readers across the city.

Each library includes 25 carefully selected books — 80 per cent by Emirati authors and 20 per cent by Arab writers living in the UAE, highlighting strong support for local talent and cultural identity.

The initiative aims to offer children a meaningful alternative to screen time, promote critical thinking and deepen their connection to the Arabic language and national heritage. It also encourages families to engage more with public libraries.

As part of the launch, 25 Emirati families were gifted home libraries in recognition of their active use of Dubai’s public library network.

A panel discussion featuring Emirati authors, children and parents will also be held to explore the role of reading in building an informed society.

Officials say ‘Zad Rashid’ reflects Dubai’s broader vision to foster creativity, cultural awareness and sustainable social development — one book at a time.
