The UAE has welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement to initiate the process of removing Syria from the country's list of state sponsors of terrorism.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) noted it represents a positive development that will support Syria’s recovery and reconstruction efforts, create opportunities to attract investment, and enhance its integration into the global economy.
The ministry also reaffirmed the UAE’s support for all efforts and initiatives aimed at fulfilling Syrians' aspirations for security, stability, and sustainable development.
Trump had informed his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa, on Wednesday that he had decided to remove the country from the US terror list.
The US President added that he notified Congress, which will now conduct a 45-day review before the decision can take effect.
