The UAE has welcomed the Somali prime minister's apology over an incident at Mogadishu airport in 2018 involving the seizure of funds and aid sent by the Emirates to support the people of Somalia.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that Mohamed Hussein Roble's initiative reflects the depth of the historical ties between the two nations.

It also lauded his appreciation of the UAE's decades-long support of his country.

The ministry emphasised that the UAE will continue supporting Somalia's efforts to achieve peace and stability.

In April 2018, Somali security forces detained a UAE aircraft and Emirati personnel who were carrying financial aid for the Somali military.
