The UAE has reaffirmed its solidarity with Kuwait after Iraq's submission of a map with a list of coordinates to the United Nations that raises potential implications for Kuwait's rights over its maritime areas and waters, including Fisht Al-Eid and Fisht Al-Eij.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE denounced Iraq's actions, underscoring the importance of taking into consideration its fraternal and historic ties with Kuwait that bind the two countries and their peoples.
The Ministry called for this matter to be addressed in accordance with the principles of international law and the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982 (UNCLOS), which provides a legal framework for the use and protection of the marine environment.
It also advised taking into account any existing bilateral understandings, agreements, and memoranda of understanding related to the situation.
The ministry further called for any related matters to be addressed through constructive dialogue and diplomatic channels, in a manner that enhances regional security and stability.
