
President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has landed in the Karabakh region as he begins an official visit to Azerbaijan.
Sheikh Mohamed was welcomed by Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev upon arrival at Fuzuli International Airport.
He later visited the historic city of Shusha, where an official welcome ceremony was accorded in his honour. The national anthems of both countries played, while Sheikh Mohamed inspected the guard of honour.
The UAE President Mohamed is accompanied by a high-level delegation, which includes several ministers and senior officials.
During talks, the two leaders reviewed the evolving ties between the two nations and explored ways to deepen cooperation, particularly in areas including the economy, investment, food security, renewable energy and culture.
His Highness highlighted that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between the two countries in July marks a significant milestone in their economic relations and promises to have a profound impact on realising their shared development goals.
During the meeting, Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s steadfast support for all efforts that promote stability and development for the Caucasus region, and expressed hope for continued progress in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
It was in August that Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a historic peace accord. At the time, Sheikh Mohamed had congratulated Aliyev, and expressed his sincere hope for the agreement to begin a new phase of cooperation between the two countries and enhance peace and stability in the Caucasus region.
The UAE has consistently played a crucial role in mediating a truce deal between the two countries, even hosting talks between the leaders in the country in July.
The UAE also shares strong relations with Azerbaijan, with the leaders meeting in August to discuss ways to reinforce bilateral ties in the fields of economy and investment.
