A social media star has run into trouble for pretending to be an Emirati and inhaling an illegal substance in a live video.

Dubai Police was quick to arrest the young man who has now been deported.

Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs said the influencer was not expecting the swift crackdown by the authorities.

He was arrested on charges of 'destructive behaviour'.

Al Mansouri stressed the importance of taking strict action against such individuals who set a bad example and encourage others to violate laws.

"There is a strong correlation between exposure to pictures and videos of drug use and the subsequent start of using them," added the official.
