The UAE will remain a committed supporter and advocate for refugee-related matters across the world.

This comes as June 20 is observed as World Refugee Day.

According to a statement by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), many initiatives recently adopted by the UAE contributed to improving the living conditions of refugees.

These include the recent inoculation drives carried out by the ERC in Jordan and Iraq which aim to vaccinate refugees against COVID-19 in order to limit the spread of the virus in camps.

In addition, distance-learning initiatives and digital school programmes have been adopted in order to create smart and flexible educational channels for children in refugee camps.

Sheikh Hamdan appealed to the international community to exert more effort towards curbing the phenomenon of asylum and to assume responsibility in providing better living conditions for its victims.

This year's theme for World Refugee Day, "Together we heal, learn and shine", aims at people belonging to all faiths from across the world who are working together to help those who have been displaced and forced to flee their homes.
