The UAE is participating as a guest country in the 19th G20 summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, under the theme Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet.

The summit, taking place from November 18-19, 2024, brings together world leaders to discuss critical global issues, including climate change, poverty, and sustainable development.

Representing President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the opening session of the summit. In his address, Sheikh Khaled conveyed greetings from the UAE President to the heads of state and leaders present, wishing them success in their discussions.

Sheikh Khaled also expressed gratitude to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the invitation to the UAE to participate in the summit, commending Brazil's efforts in organising the event. A key highlight of the summit was the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, a significant initiative aimed at shaping global policies to address these pressing challenges.

In support of the alliance’s mission, Sheikh Khaled announced that the UAE would allocate $100 million through the UAE Aid Agency to assist in combating hunger and poverty worldwide. He reaffirmed the UAE’s ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable development, peace, and prosperity at both regional and international levels.

The UAE’s delegation includes high-level officials such as Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment; Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council; and Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Deputy Group CEO at Mubadala.

This year marks the UAE’s fifth participation as a guest country at the G20 summit, following its previous engagements in Brazil (2024), India (2023), Indonesia (2022), Saudi Arabia (2020), and France (2011).

The summit’s discussions focus on strengthening global governance, addressing the transition to renewable energy, and fostering comprehensive and sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental sectors.

As global leaders come together to address pressing global issues, the UAE’s continued involvement reflects its commitment to international cooperation and humanitarian efforts to build a more sustainable and just world.
