TRA warns the public about a new Ramadan WhatsApp scam

UAE residents are being warned of a new Ramadan WhatsApp scam currently doing the rounds.

According to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the suspicious link leads users to a fake Ramadan contest to win AED 1 million dirhams when answering three questions about religion.

It further claims that the contest was launched on the official website of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Officials from the regulatory authority have clarified that when clicked, the link changes to that of the fake website.

They have also urged the public to avoid visiting websites or clicking on links sent from unknown senders and to trust official sources only.
