Aerosol dry shampoos that have been recalled in the US due to potential cancer-causing chemicals are not sold in Dubai.

Dubai Municipality issued a clarification on its official website after the US Food and Drug Administration warned against certain aerosolised personal care products, due to the presence of a cancer-causing chemical called benzene.

Unilever Plc recalled several brands of aerosol dry shampoo, including Dove, while brands like Nexxus, Suave, Tresemmé and Tigi, which makes Rockaholic and Bed Head dry shampoos, also took similar action.

Officials explained that the products sold in the UAE are different from those in the US market due to different specifications for each region.

The municipality added that "all locally-manufactured, imported and traded products in local market are subject to an integrated control system starting from inspection at the ports, to importation, and trading of products that meet health and safety standards".

The authority also urged the public to refrain from spreading rumours and rely on official sources only.

Consumers are advised to contact the Dubai Municipality in case of any inquiry or to report any adverse effects that might have been caused by the use of any personal care products via 800900 or MONTAJI on the Dubai Municipality Smart App.
