Dubai to get over 700 new bus shelters in key areas

RTA

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has installed 726 public bus shelters across key areas to the Emirate to serve more than 192 million riders annually.

Making the announcement, the RTA said some shelters are linked to more than 10 bus routes, enhancing network flexibility and raising operational efficiency.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated that the project marks a strategic step in strengthening infrastructure to support the public transport system.

"We ensured that the new shelters combine modern, attractive design with integrated services that enhance the mobility experience, strengthen public confidence in the public transport system, and support sustainability objectives, including reducing emissions," he said, adding that the locations of the shelters were selected to meet the requirements of high-density areas.

The bus shelters have been categorised based on ridership - Main Stop serves more than 750 riders per day; Secondary Stop accommodates between 250 and 750 riders daily; Standard Stop serves between 100 and 250 riders per day and Pick-up and Drop-off Stop serves fewer than 100 riders per day.

The shelters will be air-conditioned with shaded outdoor areas,  advertising spaces, and dedicated spaces for wheelchair users.
