Ras Al Khaimah has begun electronic tagging of low-risk prisoners.
It is part of recent amendments to the Law of Criminal Procedures, state news agency WAM reported.
The move is aimed at integrating prisoners back into society, while allowing authorities to track them effectively.
This comes as more than 130 convicts in Abu Dhabi were fitted with electronic tagging devices as an alternative to imprisonment.
