The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police fined 27,076 motorists during the first half of 2021 for being distracted while driving.
Officials say some of the main distractions included using cellphones to make calls, browsing online, checking social networking sites, taking pictures or turning and talking to passengers.
It’s classified among the most dangerous violations according to accident data compiled by the capital’s police, as it leads to fatalities and serious injuries on the roads.
Drivers can be fined AED 800 and get 4 black points on their licenses.
