Students across Dubai's private schools are being educated about COVID-19 as part of a new awareness campaign.

They are being offered tips on health, safety and hygiene as well as ways to boost immunity.

Primary and secondary school children are the focus of the one-month long initiative, which has been launched by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in collaboration with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

Officials are visiting eight schools in the initial stage and others will be covered in subsequent phases through in-person and virtual sessions.

Pupils in primary school will be educated through interactive methods such as quizzes and puzzles, while those in secondary school will be briefed more in detail about daily sanitisation procedures and routines.

"While schools have adopted stringent precautionary measures to reduce the possibility of transmitting infection among students and to provide a safe and healthy educational environment, it is also important to educate students so that they are empowered to take care of themselves," said Dr. Hend Al Awadhi, Head of Health Promotion and Education Section at the DHA's Public Health Protection Department.

"We have planned the lectures in an interactive and educational manner so that children participate and are engaged," she added.
