Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has introduced two options to allow private Early Childhood Centres to offer home-based learning for children below the age of six when government-mandated distance-learning is in place.
The first option titled centre-led home-based learning (CLHL) CLHL Hubs will offer nursery-style learning groups for up to eight children from different families in approved private homes or Early Childhood Centres (ECC) with a qualified teacher.
The second option, titled CLHL Educators, will see KHDA-registered teachers offer one-to-one learning for children belonging to one family at their home.
The decision is based on three priorities - continuity of learning, children’s wellbeing and safety, and building trust with families.
According to the guidelines, any Early Childhood Centres (ECC) with a valid KHDA permit can offer a CLHL hub, provided it has qualified staff to do so. If CLHL hub is being set up in a private residence, then it will need to follow a set of approvals from the KHDA, including risk assessment, parental agreement, child protection policies, insurance coverage and checks on tenancy or legal clauses.
The move will expand learning options for families and offer flexibility during periods of disruption caused due to emergencies.
It "gives families more choice and confidence, while ensuring children receive a safe and well-rounded learning experience. It also reflects Dubai’s ability to turn challenges into opportunities, in line with Dubai’s Education 33 Strategy," highlighted Dr Amna Almaazmi, CEO of Growth and Human Development at KHDA.
