It’s the Dubai Metro’s 6th birthday today. The service was inaugurated on September 9, 2009 with just 10 stations of the Red Line initially opening to the public. The first train was flagged off from the Mall of the Emirates station by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Today the network comprises two lines – the Red and Green with 49 stations transporting approximately 455,000 passengers daily. RTA officials recently announced plans to build three helipads along its route to respond to medical emergencies.
