Two of Italy's most wanted men, who were on the Interpol's red list, have been nabbed by the Dubai Police.

Raffaele Imperiale, the kingpin of organised crime syndicate 'Camorra', and his right-hand man Raffaele Mauriello, who plotted and executed murders, were arrested after they had been placed under close surveillance by a team of elite investigators from the General Department of Criminal Investigation.

Using the latest artificial intelligence technologies, they were able to foil Imperiale's attempts to hide behind a fake identity under the name of 'Antonio Rocco'.

"He intentionally avoided registering a precise address and used multiple cars to mislead authorities," added Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Dubai Police.

Imperiale was placed under round-the-clock surveillance for an entire week, before a special task team raided his house.

"Large amounts of cash, luxury watches and some valuable possessions including paintings were seized after the arrest," Al Jallaf added.

The men have been transferred to the Public Prosecution to determine their extradition as per existing international agreements.

Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-In-Chief of Dubai Police, said the arrest of the two criminals highlights the joint efforts of Dubai Police and international law enforcement agencies.
