A Russian report has concluded that poor weather conditions, incorrect aircraft configuration and piloting errors were the main factors in a flydubai plane crash that killed all 62 people on board in 2016.

Flight FZ 981 came down as it made a second attempt at landing at Rostov-on-Don airport in March of that year.

Investigators for the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) said that treacherous gusts known as wind shear resulted in a loss of control of the aircraft.

In a statement, flydubai said it “acknowledges the conclusions and recommendations drawn by the IAC. We have taken our obligations seriously and have implemented additional actions above and beyond those identified in the Final Report.”

flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said: "Our thoughts are with the passengers and our crew of flight FZ 981 and their loved ones."

He added that “we recognise this is a poignant moment for the families and our long-term care team remains available for as long as they need.”
