Emirates rule on power banks comes into effect today

Starting today, passengers flying Emirates Airline will not be allowed to carry power banks in checked-in luggage following a safety review.

Travellers will, however, be allowed to pack one power bank in their cabin baggages, but it must be packed in the cabin baggage and placed under the seat or the seat pocket only.

The device can have a maximum capacity of 100 watt‑hour (Wh), with the rating clearly visible on the device, the airline detailed in a statement on its official website.

"Power banks cannot be used to charge any personal devices on board and charging the power bank is also not permitted," the airline added.

The decision was announced earlier this year following an increasing number of lithium battery-related incidents across the aviation industry.
