Dubai International Airport (DXB) has reached a significant sustainability milestone, earning a Level 4 “Transformation” accreditation from Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation programme.

As of September 2024, DXB ranks among the top 5% of airports worldwide to achieve this prestigious status.

This “Transformation” certification is awarded to airports that demonstrate substantial emissions reductions and foster systemic change among their stakeholders.

In alignment with the UAE's Net Zero 2050 strategy, Dubai Airports is committed to minimizing its environmental impact and enhancing operational efficiency through a focus on decarbonisation, resource conservation, and innovative technologies.

"This recognition not only highlights our progress in reducing our own carbon footprint but also reflects the strength of our partnerships in driving broader, systemic change across the aviation ecosystem," said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.

"By positioning itself as one of the leaders in efficient carbon management, Dubai Airports demonstrates a strong commitment to building a more sustainable future. Dubai Airports' approach aligns with our industry's collective vision of achieving net zero emissions by 2050," added Stefano Baronci, Director-General of ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East.

Notable achievements include a partnership with dnata and Emirates National Oil Company to transition dnata’s non-electric airside fleet to a biodiesel blend, which is projected to cut carbon emissions by over 3,500 tonnes annually.

Additionally, DXB is working with Etihad Energy Services to boost energy efficiency via building retrofits and solar integration, and has teamed up with BEEAH Group to reduce landfill waste by 60% through an innovative food waste treatment plan.

DXB's ‘Follow the Greens’ system has optimized aircraft taxiing, resulting in lower fuel consumption and emissions. The airport is also actively engaged with the ‘Airports of Tomorrow’ initiative, a collaboration with the World Economic Forum to drive the aviation industry toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Moreover, the recently launched oneDXB Sustainability Alliance is exploring over 180 new decarbonisation projects, furthering DXB's commitment to sustainability.

This Level 4 accreditation solidifies Dubai Airports’ leadership in environmental efforts, positioning DXB as a benchmark in the global airport community.
