Authorities in Dubai have announced the pilot phase of an electronic system linking residence visa procedures with the payment of traffic fines.
According to the General Directorate for Identity and Foreigners Affairs - Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), residents must now settle all outstanding traffic fines before they can renew, cancel or transfer their residency permits.
Lt. General Mohammed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai, emphasised that the measure is not meant to impose restrictions, but rather to promote a culture of accountability and respect for the law.
The move is designed to enhance coordination between government agencies, improve compliance with traffic regulations, and promote overall public safety.
To ease the financial burden on residents, authorities are also considering offering installment payment options.
