Dubai enhances taxi services with focus on safety, passenger comfort

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a series of initiatives designed to improve the performance of taxi services, with a strong focus on enhancing passenger comfort, safety and overall experience.

Key measures include intensified awareness and training programmes for taxi drivers and instructors. Drivers must also maintain high standards of vehicle cleanliness.

As part of the new initiatives, the RTA has launched a pilot programme to introduce high-quality air fresheners in over 500 airport taxis. Additionally, AI-based technology will be used to monitor smoking inside vehicles, while increased inspection campaigns will focus on ensuring overall vehicle cleanliness.

To measure the effectiveness of these efforts, the RTA has introduced a new operational index to assess taxi cleanliness, tracking both vehicle and driver hygiene.

Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said that the index will also include monthly reports on cleanliness observations per 100,000 Hala Taxi trips.

He also added that customer satisfaction surveys and mystery shopper assessments, focusing on vehicle and driver cleanliness, will be conducted semi-annually starting in 2025.

Shakri emphasized that these initiatives align with Dubai’s vision for a clean, sustainable environment, reinforcing the RTA’s commitment to innovation and excellence in transport services.
