Abu Dhabi has launched a pilot project to operate autonomous trucks within Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD).

The Integrated Transport Centre, part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, is overseeing the project in partnership with global autonomous vehicle specialist Autotech and AD Ports Group.

The initiative is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, focusing on the use of self-driving trucks for logistics and freight transport.

The trials focus on how the trucks perform within a controlled industrial environment, using dedicated routes and approved safety standards.

Throughout 2025, engineers worked on adapting the AI powered systems to local road conditions and logistics needs to ensure safe, efficient operation.

The project supports Abu Dhabi’s wider push to expand smart and autonomous mobility solutions, while strengthening regulations to support innovation in the supply chain and logistics sector.
