Spain's La Liga champions Barcelona are reeling after the resignations over the club management issues.

Two vice presidents, Emili Rousaud and Enrique Tombas have quit, as well as directors Silvio Elias, Josep Pont, Jordi Calsamiglia and Maria Texidor.

The group explained their actions in a letter to supporters criticising club president Josep Maria Bartomeu for his handling of the COVID-19 crisis.

They suggested he call presidential elections as soon as possible.

"We have arrived at this point because we cannot reverse the way the club is managed in the face of important challenges in the future, especially in the post-pandemic era," said the letter, according to excerpts published in the Spanish press.

Its players, including captain Lionel Messi, have taken an extra pay cut to guarantee non-playing staff will receive full salaries while competition is suspended.
