Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus will miss the start of the new Premier League season following minor knee surgery. The forward will be out “for a few weeks” according to manager Mikel Arteta, after treatment for an injury he picked up last season.
The 26-year-old forward didn’t play in Arsenal’s pre-season win over Monaco, having felt some pain in his knee for the past few weeks.
Arteta said, "Unfortunately he had a little procedure this morning. He had some irritation in the knee and we had to get it resolved."
"We had to make a decision and the best one is to protect the player and to get him back as quickly as possible, so we decided to do it." He added.
Arsenal take on treble winners Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, before their opening Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.
