Fulham coach Alvaro Arbeloa has been fined £25,000 (AED 122,000) and given a warning by the Football Association (FA) over comments suggesting officials would not let Manchester United lose.
The remarks came after Fulham’s 1-1 draw with United at Craven Cottage on September 20, when Matheus Cunha’s deflected 89th-minute equaliser rescued a point for the visitors.
“I knew after the game against Manchester City that they don’t let Manchester United lose here,” Arbeloa said after the match.
He was referring to City’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford, when Erling Haaland’s winner was initially ruled out for offside before being awarded after a lengthy VAR review.
The FA said Arbeloa had made comments that “imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official”. He admitted the charge.
The 43-year-old Spaniard took charge of Fulham in July and is still looking for his first league win. Fulham are bottom of the Premier League with two points from six games.
