France solidified their position on the path to the Euro 2024 finals by maintaining an unblemished qualifying record, securing a convincing 2-0 home victory over Ireland on Thursday.

Les Bleus showcased their dominance at the Parc des Princes with goals from talented young midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and substitute striker Marcus Thuram.

This resounding win marked France's fifth consecutive triumph in the qualifiers, affirming their supremacy in Group B with a perfect 15-point tally.

They now hold a commanding nine-point lead over the Netherlands, who achieved a 3-0 victory against Greece but have contested two fewer matches in the campaign.

Didier Deschamps, the head coach of the French national team, reflected on the performance, saying, "I can't complain. We're not qualified yet, but so far, it's been a good campaign. It was not always easy to find the solutions, and we could have scored more goals."

France's upcoming schedule includes a friendly match against Germany in Dortmund on Tuesday, followed by the resumption of their qualifying campaign with a pivotal away fixture against the Netherlands on October 13.

Throughout the match, France displayed a masterful control of the midfield, effectively stifling Ireland's attempts to assert themselves.

The French efforts yielded fruitful results in the 19th minute when Aurelien Tchouameni struck an 18-metre shot into the net, seizing on Kylian Mbappe's deft touch.

Striker Olivier Giroud sustained an ankle injury and was replaced by Marcus Thuram, who made an immediate impact.

Thuram doubled France's advantage with a swift turn and a well-placed shot just three minutes into the second half, marking his first goal for the French national team.

Reflecting on his performance, Thuram expressed his aspiration for more goals, saying, "I could have scored another, but I hope it will come in the next game."

It is worth noting that Thuram's father, Lilian Thuram, famously scored his only two goals for Les Bleus during the semi-final against Croatia in their triumphant 1998 World Cup campaign.

Additionally, France's defensive prowess was on full display, with goalkeeper Mike Maignan making a remarkable save to thwart Chiedozie Ogbene's goal-scoring attempt.

This stellar stop ensured that France's perfect record of not conceding a single goal in the qualifying campaign remained intact.

Tchouameni nearly extended France's lead with another powerful shot, but Irish goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu managed to deflect it away.

Ousmane Dembele, who had been a constant menace to the Irish defence in the first half with his dazzling runs, missed an opportunity to secure a third goal for France when his shot struck the post.
