Cold-water swimmers set new world record

Cold-water swimmers in the Czech Republic have set a new world record for the largest polar bear dip. 2,461 people braved the freezing temperatures of Most lake in the northwest of the country to set the new record.

The swimmers smashed the previous record of 1,799 participants, which was set in Mielno, Poland on the Baltic Sea on February 15, 2015.

In order for the record to be officially recognised, people must be wearing bathing suits and stay in the water, at least at waist level for a minimum of one minute, and the water must be below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

The water temperature during the record attempt was 38.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
