Sharjah Ruler partners with university of Liverpool for veterinary programme

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Al Dhaid (UODH), signed a partnership agreement with the University of Liverpool to establish a veterinary medicine programme.

The agreement aims to combine Liverpool’s global expertise with Al Dhaid’s advanced facilities, including farms and pastures, to provide practical, world-class education in veterinary sciences.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan emphasised the importance of hands-on training, highlighting Al Dhaid’s wheat and corn fields, livestock farms, and veterinary clinics, which are vital for students to gain practical experience. He underscored the programme’s dual purpose: to support local farmers while fostering sustainable animal care and development.

Dr. Tim Jones, Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, praised the collaboration as a key initiative to address global challenges like antimicrobial resistance, food sustainability, and climate-related animal diseases. Liverpool, with its renowned Veterinary School, will help develop a cutting-edge curriculum tailored to regional needs.

The programme positions UODH as a regional leader in agriculture and veterinary education, with doors open to students from across the Gulf. This initiative reflects Sharjah’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and academic excellence.
