Dubai conference to transform global museum dialogue

Dubai is gearing up to host the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Dubai 2025) — the first time the event will be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region.

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the landmark conference will run from November 11 to 17, bringing together museum professionals, cultural experts and thought leaders from around the world.

Held under the theme 'The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities', the event will explore key topics including intangible heritage, youth engagement and emerging technologies.

A distinguished speaker lineup has been announced, featuring Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, alongside global voices such as Emma Nardi, President of ICOM, Kamini Sawhney, Director of Bengaluru’s Museum of Art & Photography, and Sumayya Vally, principal of the South Africa-based architecture and research studio Counterspace.

The week-long programme will include panel discussions, workshops, cultural activations and a vibrant Museum Fair — all set against Dubai’s dynamic cultural landscape.

Organisers say ICOM Dubai 2025 will serve as a global platform for dialogue, innovation and partnership-building, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a hub for cultural exchange and creative leadership.
