Security has been beefed up in Nepal amid a general strike called by an outlawed communist group, demanding the release of its supporters from custody.

The group is suspected of triggering a series of explosions in the capital city of Kathmandu that left four people dead and seven others wounded.

Police said members of the group, that once split from the ruling Communist party, have been protesting the arrests of their supporters when the explosions had gone off.

They also found pamphlets from the group at the explosion sites.
