Migrants stranded at sea because of Italian political standoff

More than 130 migrants are stranded at sea because of a standoff between political allies in Italy.

The charity ship has been told to wait off the coast of Italy as former political allies stopped it from docking at the southern island of Lampedusa.

The country’s interior minister, Matteo Salvini, has told his men to prevent the boat from disembarking the migrants.

It comes despite his own prime minister and six European Union nations agreed to take them.

The African migrants were rescued from Libya 16 days ago.
