Self-driving electric pods could soon be brought to the MENA region for the first time. It’s after app-based booking service, CAREEM, announced a strategic partnership with NEXT Future Transportation, Inc. The pods are designed to operate as a mass-transportation system, and can drive individually or by attaching themselves to others to form a bus-like structure. They pick passengers up on demand and shuttle people from door-to-door as efficiently as possible. The partnership follows the launch of the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy, a new initiative aimed at making a quarter of all trips in Dubai smart and driverless by 2030.
