77,000 vehicles sold by Volkswagen in Australia had been fitted with devices designed to mask the level of emissions. The admission by the company’s Australian unit widens a global scandal engulfing the German automaker. The company has now set up a website for customers to see if their vehicles have the affected EA 189 diesel engines. The vehicles affected include almost 55,000 Volkswagen branded passenger cars, 17,000 commercial vehicles and 5,000 Skodas. Meanwhile, Volkswagen will begin recalling affected cars in January until the end of 2016, Chief Executive Matthias Mueller said in an interview with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).
