Undersized fish seized from Dubai market

More than 1.7 tonnes of illegally caught fish have been seized during surprise inspections at Deira's waterfront market.

The checks are aimed at tackling the sale and distribution of undersized fish and shark.

Fines have been issued to shop owners, fishermen and transporters, while the confiscated fish have been donated to charities that support low-income families.

The raids were carried out by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in partnership with Dubai Municipality.

Authorities say that compliance with the country’s fishing laws is crucial to preserve stocks and maintain a healthy marine environment.
