Starting November, the public will be able to use new nol cards linked to the UAE’s national card payment scheme - Jaywan - to pay for their taxis, Dubai Metro rides and parking.
It follows a strategic partnership between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Al Etihad Payments (AEP), a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE).
The new cards will enable holders to use the nol system for travel while also benefiting from payment services through Jaywan.
It will be launched in successive phases, beginning with a pilot in November, the authorities added.
It will offer digital options for activation and use through smartphones running Android and iOS. Cardholders can also benefit from more than 120 promotional offers and exclusive discounts
"The next generation of nol–Jaywan cards marks a significant step in developing financial and technological solutions to support public transport and strengthen its link with everyday services," added Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, RTA.
"We are not merely introducing a new payment method; we are establishing a flexible and secure financial environment that connects key sectors and helps accelerate the transition towards a sustainable digital economy," added Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services at CBUAE and Chairman of Al Etihad Payments.
