President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan congratulated Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his re-election as President of Algeria, during a phone call held on Tuesday.

During the call, His Highness expressed his best wishes to the Algerian President for success in his duties in the coming period in aiming to meet the aspirations of the Algerian people for further progress and prosperity.

Algerian authorities declared President Abdulmadjid Tebboune the overwhelming winner of Saturday's election on Sunday, but a rival candidate alleged irregularities in the ballot count.

Official preliminary results gave Tebboune 95 per cent of the vote, enough to avoid a second round run-off, with Abdelaali Hassani Cherif getting three per cent and Youcef Aouchiche two per cent. Turnout was 48 per cent.
