UAE launches 'Global Energy Efficiency Alliance' at COP29

WAM

The UAE has announced plans to establish the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance at COP29, aiming to double global energy efficiency rates by 2030 and reduce emissions.

The initiative builds on the UAE Consensus from COP28, where nations and organisations pledged to cut carbon emissions and reduce natural resource consumption.

His Excellency Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, shared the news exclusively on Dubai Eye 103.8's The Agenda programme with Georgia Tolley.

Al Olama explained that the alliance reflects a global push to improve energy efficiency. He emphasised that the UAE will take a leadership role, sharing best practices, transferring knowledge, and partnering with the private sector.

The alliance will focus on reducing carbon emissions, minimising natural resource consumption, and promoting public-private partnerships. It also aims to support African nations by sharing financing and technological solutions.

Al Olama called on governments, organisations and leaders to join the initiative and work together to achieve ambitious sustainability goals.
