The UAE welcomed the start of 2026 with large-scale fireworks and light shows across the country, drawing crowds of residents and visitors to major landmarks and public spaces.

In Dubai, celebrations centred on Downtown Dubai, where the Burj Khalifa hosted a coordinated display combining fireworks, lasers and lighting effects. Fireworks were also launched at several other locations, including the Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Global Village, reinforcing the emirate’s position as a major New Year destination.

Abu Dhabi saw strong turnout at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, where fireworks were paired with cultural performances and heritage displays. Additional celebrations took place along the Corniche and in the Saadiyat cultural district.

Fireworks were also held in the northern emirates, including Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, creating a coordinated nationwide celebration. Ras Al Khaimah, known for its large-scale displays, once again attracted significant crowds.

Authorities said the events were supported by extensive security, traffic and emergency response plans. Police patrols, civil defence teams and ambulance services were deployed across key locations, supported by monitoring and crowd-management systems.

Officials said the celebrations passed smoothly, with high levels of public compliance contributing to the safe management of large crowds during the New Year period.
