The UAE Government has highlighted its commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improving the lives of members of the community, as part of the country’s approach to supporting global development efforts.

The National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals approved the second edition of the National Voluntary Review Report, a special report prepared by various countries, on achievements and progress in reaching SDGs by monitoring their most important and recent accomplishments, programmes and initiatives.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chairperson of the Committee, said government authorities who are members of the committee aim to strengthen the country’s efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals by highlighting related local and international efforts and initiatives.

She also talked about the UAE’s international partnerships aimed at helping less fortunate countries, and providing food and medical aid to eliminate hunger and poverty, and ensure adequate health services.

In his speech to the committee’s members, Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Director-General of the Prime Minister's Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Deputy Chairman of the Committee, said the UAE, in line with its leadership’s directives, will continue launching initiatives aimed at helping communities complete the SDGs.

Hanan Mansour Ahli, Acting Director of the Federal Centre for Competitiveness and Statistics, said achieving the goals is a human mission.

The UAE has achieved significant success in sustainable development, which has been recognised by major international organisations that monitor the country’s performance, she added, noting that the UAE was ranked first globally in 97 indexes relating to SDGs, and among the top ten countries in 268 other indexes.
