Nine workers were killed and 73 others were rescued after a bus overturned in Khorfakkan, Sharjah Police said on Monday.

Director of the Police Department of the Eastern Region, Commander Dr. Ali K Al-Hamoudi, said specialised police teams, civil defense teams and the National Ambulance went to the site the incident shortly after the accident occurred.

Commander Al-Hamoudi said preliminary investigations found the accident was caused by faulty brakes, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle.

The General Command of Sharjah Police called on the road users to comply with traffic laws and regulations, and stressed the importance of strictly adherence to periodic maintenance of vehicles.
