If you see trees being removed in Ras Al Khaimah, worry not as they're not meant to be there in the first place.
RAK's Environment Protection and Development Authority (EPDA) is undertaking a campaign to remove invasive tree species, as part of efforts to preserve natural resources in the emirate.
Invasive species, such as Conocarpus, can deplete water resources due to their greater need for water compared to indigenous trees.
The EPDA is now working with public and private organisations to replace the unwanted trees with local species.
