UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the first day of the World Government Summit.

Held under the theme "Shaping Future Governments", the Summit saw global experts and decision-makers from around the globe to share policies, and models that are essential in shaping future governments.

In his keynote address, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reviewed his country’s most important government strategies and initiatives, and thanked the UAE for its constant support.

The Egyptian leader also honoured the winners of the 'Global Best M-Gov Award' at the summit.

The first day of the World Government Summit unfolded with a minute's silence for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

During his opening address, Mohammed Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the World Government Summit, highlighted how the summit serves as a platform to shape the future of governance.

He highlighted how "government crises are caused not due to a lack of resources, but rather a lack of good governance".

At the first session on Monday, Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, spoke about the "cooperation of different stakeholders".
