Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open a 5 km expansion of Emirates Road on Sunday, August 30.

The project adds two new lanes for traffic heading from Sharjah towards Wadi Al Amardi area, widening the road from six to eight lanes.

The expansion will raise the road’s capacity from 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour and is expected to cut peak-hour journey times by up to 25 per cent.

The project is part of the RTA’s wider efforts to improve traffic flow and strengthen connectivity between Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

Emirates Road is a major transport corridor, carrying more than 240,000 vehicles a day in both directions and linking Dubai with key roads, residential communities, and industrial and logistics areas.

The latest expansion is one of several improvements along the corridor, designed to meet growing traffic demand and support smoother, safer and more sustainable mobility across the emirates.
