Authorities in the UAE have warned about a recent increase in the rate of COVID-19 infections, mainly due to non-compliance with safety measures.

During their latest media briefing, it was revealed that the average number of daily cases had increased by about 136 among Emiratis and residents.

The UAE's Minister of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al Owais called on everyone to avoid gatherings and to maintain physical distancing in order to curb the spread of the virus.

He reiterated that the government's efforts and strategy will only work if people follow the rules and comply with the preventative measures.

Al Owais also added that the UAE continues to support scientific and medical research to develop effective solutions to tackle the virus.

He explained that the recent launch of the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Medical Research will be a valuable addition to the country’s research sector.

The Minister pointed out that these initiatives will enhance the UAE's role as an effective partner in the global healthcare system.
